ایجاد کپی ROM از داده های SA موجود روی درایوهای وسترن دیجیتال مارول با ROM داخلی با استفاده از نسخه 5.X

این روش را می توان برای بازسازی کپی اصلی ROM و سپس نوشتن آن در PCB اهداکننده، در هنگامی که PCB اصلی آسیب دیده، از دست رفته یا ROM اصلی از دست رفته است مورد استفاده قرار داد. ابزار «Building ROM image from SA data» در نسخه نرم افزاری PC-3000 6.0 به طور کلی مورد بازبینی قرار گرفته است، در نتیجه این فرآیند از نسخه های 5.X به بعد متفاوت است.

این روند امکان بازسازی کپی کامل ROM اصلی و تمام ماژول های ROM را فراهم می سازد.

این روند تقریباً در مورد تمام درایوهای ساختار WD Marvell دارای ROM داخلی (مجتمع با پردازنده)، که دارای ماژول های 102، 103، 105، 107 و 109 است قابل بکارگیری است. برخی سفت افزارها دارای ماژول SA 109 هستند که شامل داده های ضروری نمی شود – کپی ROM. در صورت باز کردن ماژول 109 در ویراستار شانزده شانزدهی مشاهده خواهیم کرد که با صفر پر شده است. در چنین مواردی برنامه تسهیلاتی نمی تواند تصویر را ایجاد کند و خطا می دهد.

PC-3000 for HDD. Building ROM image from SA data on WD Marvell drives with internal ROM using version 5.X

The method can be used to recover original ROM image and then write it into donor PCB when original PCB was damaged, lost, or original ROM was lost.The “Building ROM image from SA data” tool was fully revised in the PC-3000 6.0 software version so the process is different from 5.X versions. We have another article about the process for PC-3000 v6.X that can be found here.

The procedure allows to recover full image of original ROM and all ROM modules.The procedure is applicable to almost all WD Marvell architecture drives with internal (integrated into processor) ROM, that has SA modules 102, 103, 105, 107 and 109. Some firmwares has SA module 109 that doesn’t contain necessary data – ROM image. If we open such 109 module in HEX-editor we’ll see that it is filled with zeroes. In such cases the utility can’t built the image and gives error.This procedure is not applicable to drives with external ROM IC (U12) as well as to classical WD Caviar architecture drives(non-Marvell).

To perform the procedure the SA and at least one system head should be OK.

The modules 102, 103, 105, 107 and 109 are necessary to perform the procedure.

In this example we recover WD1600AAJS-60PSA0 (Sequoia family) drive with not original PCB. The drive goes READY but doesn’t have access to SA and do not give access to its User Area.

Here is the procedure:

Please pay special attention that the procedure is only applicable to the drives with internal ROM (without U12 ROM IC on PCB)

Let’s power up the drive 36 OFF
And wait until it’s ready(DRD+DSC). The spindle motor should spin now.

02 Ready

If the motor doesn’t start spinning and drive doesn’t get to ready(always in BSY or ERR) that means it’s something wrong with PCB or ROM version is completely not compatible. You can try to write different ROM via BootCode or try another PCB.

Now we can start the WD Marvell utility.

Press “Autodetect” button to detect family.

And check that the drive family is detected correctly. It’s recommended to work in Kernel mode on this step.

Now we can see that the PCB initializes correctly. But the HDD ID is not available. So there is no SA access.

So we try to load DIR and Permanent Overlay from surface manually.

Make sure that Load from HDD SA and Upload LDR options are checked and press OK.

And we can see that the drive can’t read the overlay and DIR from surface.

So we load the overlay that was saved from donor drive(from which the PCB was taken) manually from file.

We navigate to the folder where the donor drives modules are located and double-click the module 11 and select “As premanent overlay”.

As we can see now the overlay has loaded.

And the drive is initialized with “standard” ID.

So now we again try to load the DIR module from SA.

Now we can uncheck “Upload LDR” option because the overlay is already loaded in RAM.

But the drive still can’t read the DIR from surface.

And can’t detect SA SPT.

Another opportunity to read DIR and other modules is “Search modules in SA”.

When the drive is ready we press the “Start search” button.

This process takes a long time and sometimes gives good results.

But now we will use another way.

The way is to write another ROM image with different FW version.

So now we interrupt the process by pressing Stop.

Now the ERR indicator is on.

So we send Soft Reset command to the drive to make it ready.

When the drive is ready we can write the image from Database. The idea is to find one which is more similar to original one.

Here we can select the desired FW version.

Here we should remember the serial number because on the next step we will write ROM modules from the same set.

Now we check that writing process is finished correctly.

And repower the drive before the next step.

When the drive is ready we can write ROM modules from the same set as the ROM image on previous step.

And now we need to repower the drive again.

Also it is recommended to restart the WD utility now.

And now we again try to load the overlay and DIR from surface.

So now we can try to read SA modules by ID.

To do that we need to restart the WD utility in Normal mode.

Now the original DIR is loaded so let’s try to read other modules.

Choose a name for the new HDD profile. In this exmple I choose “123”.

We should use “Modules reading by ID” method.

When modules are saved we can start building the ROM image from SA modules.

We navigate to the folder where the modules were saved(the profile we created when were saving modules) and check the modules 102, 103, 105, 107 and 109. And press Build button.
